Antigua Food: Where’s the Best Place to Eat?

by admin

.

Creole-inspired cuisine is abundant in Antigua as is the national dish: fungi and pepperpot. Variations of this vegetable and meat stew present themselves all across Antigua. While you will find many foods that are unique, many of the restaurants also have international selections including American and Asian dishes that are pleasing.

Another notable selection that Antigua offers is fresh seafood. Anywhere in the Caribbean is going to offer fresh seafood with their own variations on how to prepare it, but if you are a seafood lover, come hungry and I promise, you leave happy!

Here is a short list of some of the better known restaurants. It in now way does Antigua restaurants justice, but it does give you a sampling of what is available: from the casual to the formal, and from the fun to romantic you will find what you are looking for:

Nelson’s Dockyard on the English Harbour (the most historical place in Antigua) features HQ. It is is located in a building that was built in the 18th century and serves some of the best seafood you find in Antigua. Reservations are required:268-562-2563.

Coco’s at the Coco’s Resort is well known for its superb menu and you can dine and look out at the beach at the same time. Reservations required for non-guests. 268-462-9700.

The Beach House at Long Bay features two restuarants that have great reviews. The Terrance Restuarant and the Turtle restaurant both cater to guests, but will take reservations for non-guests as well. The must-do is the weekly Beach Barbeque on Thursdays nights. You can listen to a local steel band and dine on grilled steak, local fish and chicken and enjoy the ocean view.

I have to put one last place which has a great name: The Big Banana: Pizza in Paradise! They provide the best pizzas on the island with live entertainment and big screens for sports. Located at St. Johns 268-480-6986.

Most every resort will feature their own resturant and will have a varied selection that will please most guests.
